October 2011 Gardening Calendar

• Come out to shop Saturdays at Grayson and Woodstock from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. all month.
• Saturday, October 15, at Grayson, representatives from Georgia Piedmont Land Trust will be on hand to answer questions about native plants that draw wildlife to our gardens!
• Install Fescue sod as the temperatures drops.
• Plant your cool season vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, lettuce, and greens.
• Fertilize Fescue lawns with 18-24-12 to get it greened up and growing!
• Divide or transplant perennials such as hosta, iris, daylilies, and liriope.
• Install hardscape projects. Enjoy more outdoor living space as it cools off (finally)!

November 2011 Gardening Calendar

• November 5th is our last Saturday shopping day of the season at Grayson and Woodstock!
• Use fall leaves to create a compost pile. Mulch leaves with your mower then add to your compost bin.
• New stock of B&B trees start to arrive. Fall is the perfect time to plant a tree!
• Freshen up mulch beds. Mulch breaks down throughout the year and needs to be replenished to maintain a 2-3" layer that is essential to retain moisture and insulate roots from extreme temperatures.
• Cut colorful Fall foliage and berries for arrangements inside your home.
• Happy Thanksgiving! We will be closed, Thursday, November 24 for the holiday and may have limited hours Friday, November 25. Please call your local branch to confirm hours that week!

December 2011 Gardening Calendar

• Watch for areas that don't drain well after a rain and correct any drainage problems.
• Clean up foliage on perennials that has been knocked back by hard frosts.
• Transplant and install woody shrubs and trees while they are dormant.
• Don't forget to water newly installed plants if we are not getting enough rain, even dormant plants need water.
• We will be closed Monday, December 26th in honor of the Christmas holiday, Merry Christmas!
